I really got to enjoy being in a clan with Justin and it really spoke to Solace and how we were for the most part, okay with past issues between clan mates/applicants and were able to give people chances that deserved them. I'm all out of bubblegum. Yeah Bazz you were a VERY active member and it's so cool to see you here doing well, congrats on years of hard work! I agree, a ton of discipline from teenagers playing runies, it was truly wild. Champion was so cool because all those other clans had senior ranks and we were so new... I just thought allowing an activity reward while also making it a type of 'currency' for other member-style ranks made it an interesting and fun way to progress. Individuals like you and Bhatu that made me keep going into FileZilla and Photoshop and editing the fkin champion tags under your member titles... that was a grind. I think Electrosofa, Bhatu, yourself and myself had a "22c"... that's just nuts to think of in terms of activity and there were tons of 12+ in there ofc too. Other than that, I just remember FOOLS being one of those 'do we really wanna fight @ 2pm EST and go balls deep for 2 hours or is someone actually gonna fight us'...? It was never a fight I wanted to take as a Solace PK Leader and onwards lol. It takes one Fin tanking your pile to God knows where to ruin momentum/a new member experience. Primarily because that's where all their friends went. Also I was an ass so being told how to conduct yourself vs. being unchained... there's some obvious draws to joining RoT. Glad you asked the question yourself at the end--he was a good caller. I think the graphics/current state of our fights when he was leading made it slightly more difficult because some of the things that for me, Duv and Mystical might be automatic in terms of clearing snipers/targeting something specific. He admitted to us several times he wasn't as motivated and it was effecting his calling. Yeah I really don't know it was some weird stuff. Don't remember it specifically but generally speaking IRC is one of the lowest forms of security so it sounds like a natural gathering place for the people you described. Just remember I love you homies, but Jeffreyp's PC/RS Client made it a shit show, we should have worked something out sooner. I was in DF before Merked was good so that was interesting... He was such a good hype guy and good member but really spread our cheeks and it sucked calling after him. Then like 10 years later mah man Mark (Zilpherest, the OG), an EoS rank hits me up one day with "hai u"... was so funny and awkward. That was pretty scummy/scammy although I think one of the worst was when one of the advisors and I were monitoring the VR/EoS spies and decided to try to stir the pot a bit too much. The individual who I cannot even remember (sorry!) didn't get past officials voting even though they had stuck it out on the line for us. Didn't really offer an alternative and that's a bad thing to do. Oh for sure! I loved the TT fights, I enjoyed the TT+CoL vs Solace fights, I think my first impression of TT skewed my life because I was a low level in MoD and saw the Runehead of 126's that feasted on us... and I think the TT vs DF stuff I was on the DF side. I can't give you a number because in 2012 I was playing primarily on Slayer-VA, Princessrera or Abannan, and if Funkymunky11 was online, it was probably someone else walking around on my acc tanking the EoS raggers/randos on a lap around the wildy. I was making about 100m-250m a week doing PvM/small stakes so I'd say to fund 4+ accs I was losing 50+ sets in a 6 hour fight. Requirements to be a sniper were 10+ longbow sights and 20+ corrupt sets so... all of those people by your pile consistently were required to have BiS F2P gear or they had to listen to me rage. Great question actually, typical case of omg this guy on RSC is such a troll, he was CoR, wtf what a loser! Until he was hanging around us and then we realized how cool he was. Public perception isn't everything! I'd have set a date and suspended him if he didn't get it. Yea they weren't. Loved smashing them with PH though. When Dan told me we were in a crash war with them I didn't know if it was a joke or something at first. Yeah I enjoyed it, I had early access like all leaders/maxed players I had a few conversations with Mod Chris L about how broken some of the changes were like Freedom and Dragonbreath. Basically stated that PvP needed some of those mechanics but I felt the CD was too strong. How can I take down someone's prayer every 10 seconds? How can I save Freedom for when I need it? I think for Solace it was a bit easier because we did PvP Area training, which wasn't new for us. I took us into the white portal a lot of times during regular "non EoC" if we had a bad fight. We had everyone's ability bar set up, everyone had the same (or very similar) key binds, we coordinated the CD's appropriately to make sure we could still dominate. This was basically the end of the crash war and we didn't want to be left behind, I think we came out into EoC with an advanced knowledge of how it was going to play out where as most people didn't. I think DF and RSD were the only two clans interested in doing BETA fights. Mentioned it earlier but just an all around great guy. Best person to be in a clan with, great mentor figure for newer clanners too. I think that's something I missed on the last one is that in MoD I was 105 cmb and Josh was 117, I eventually passed him but he would get to fight and I was cut all the time, so it was always fun asking him how things were and questions about his previous clan experience. There were a few exceptions, PK Leaders typically had their own spam on shortkeys/garys, but were encouraged to use cyan:sol to blend in when not leading. Eomeri was always using IRC and was a beast so when he told me privately he didn't want to use them who was I to say no? Love the guy. Didn't know anything about him before he was a VR official, then I remember him msging me and Derek about joining. Extended FA, all that jazz... then the common Solace problem--lots of good members, not many good callers, so he was one of the first people we had to design a promotion rank around while trying to be 'politically correct'. By far one of my favorite people I got to clan with OUTSIDE of the game too! Yeah I felt like that was really the first half of Solace, our main issue was that TMO didn't want anyone to be retired like TT. He saw what it did to them and didn't want the same for Solace, but I saw quite a few people feel awkward about having to leave due to activity etc. Basically it felt pretty bad because you have all these people giving it 120%, firing on all cylinders, going kill for kill outnumbered by 20, and we beat them in KDA! ....but it would have only been outnumbered by 10 if we had some retireds that could have hopped on or whatever so maybe we could have even won?.... One of my first decisions once I was given leader was to put in a system similar to Adelais' reserve and it worked really well. That's when you saw us never falling below 45, it quickly became 50-60 more consistently and were able to build on it. Yeah as far as 'good leaders' of 2012 I'd probably be his only rival. Only from Solace I'm assuming, didn't really hear other callers much except CWA teams/spy leaks. I'm thinking back to Exodus and it was a different feeling when going into a fight then in Solace where I was managing a lot more of what was going on. I'd say the best EXPERIENCE was a specific Solace vs EoS fight in the crashwar, August 2012. Things were starting to die down more, and VR was busy fighting another clan so we knew we'd get EoS to ourselves. We absolutely dominated them, were chasing from GDZ to Mossies, to Corp, to RDG... it wasn't the most eventful but it's that confirmation that you're miles ahead of your competition once the curtain is pulled off. Eventually they ended, we went to take ending and VR hopped on.... This would be the fight where VR was getting mollywhopped by RSD/DF/whoever so they came in ready to mass snipe us.. ...and we put 'em in the box west of spiders. First time doing anything like that and we vaporized them in like 20 minutes. They really didn't like mass sniping after that and would typically try to regroup on different worlds. ❤️ Who else? All of a sudden an absolutely hammered Dark Invoker came into Ventrilo after getting a leak from AA about Syndicate. Syndicate as I remember was a Tukuruk clan with CoR leadership and some random aussie clan that got dissolved into it. How the fuck is British Lukas1400 supposed to lead a fight starting at 1am GMT? They died pretty quick. Solace was very good. Short story would be small opts, 30v30 style fights in pvp/cwa for the first year, ramped up to 40+ but nobody pulled that anymore during this stage of the clan world, so we were fighting early to catch GMT country clans and late to incentivize bigger clans to fight us on lower numbers. Basically 2 years of this followed by continuous improvement on quality and recruiting led to us pulling 60+ consistently, fighting usually 80+ people and we were able to 1.5x their KDA. For Syndicate, it was leadership and activity from what I heard. Also Exodus did a number on them. For Solace, pretty much time/place, even RSD had died, EoC was out and there wasn't the OSRS announcement yet. I had suspended a Warlord/Advisor for bringing down the attitude ingame during a fight and lots of other members felt the same way about EoC, so it didn't go well and eventually we closed. I also had found out we were expecting a child so made sense to leave the game. Now THIS GUY... How are you friend??? Miss you, hope all has been well! As soon as I was leader I was a bit hesitant about making changes but then instead of just revamping things I kept trying to make continuous changes. I think this would have allowed me to do other things instead of always trying to find a way to merry the old and the new... It may seem weird but Solace was set up with event coordinators to do shit like trouble brewing when I became leader. We didn't have any but the rank and permissions etc... so just making the transition smoother. After typing that I was like that's not really a what if... so I guess the biggest 'what if' would have been what if I was able to have a better attitude and be better collected? I think Solace would have kept a lot more officials and done better throughout 2012... ...and I probably would have just handed things off to the next in line. That's pretty much the biggest regret/want to do things differently, what if in 2013 I wasn't breathing purely through my mouth and had the ability to show humility? Would that allow Solace to be open? Haven't spoken to him in quite some time but I always enjoyed having him around. Usual thing where I don't like someone on RSC but then they're cool so... Not even comparable. If I had a problem with the clan in late 2012/2013 I'd just fix it, whatever it was. With a child there is a lot of pushing and pulling from multiple parties, my best advice is find yourself someone with your memename tattooed and wife em. Similarities would be that you should be open minded and really ready to change at a moments notice. Leading a clan helped me invesely actually--it just made me realize that yeah, I had some awesome moments, but there's so much I did miss and I can't miss any of this. It's just made spending time with family that much more important because I was putting in some pretty serious hours and losing sight of important things. Yeah, I definitely could have seen a fit. Definitely has a different feel to DF once you're in it, which is mainly I feel in part due to the image Lego installed all those years ago. I don't think I effected DF at all, I had a lot of fun with random p2p stuff. I think I was credited with leaving during a mass leave or something so maybe that's bad. All in all though I had a great time in DF, and I swear to you it was Ghetto that was always wanting to whomp on DF. Love ya Chris! It would be for something super petty but it was to prove a point, those were the ones where I was thinking if I don't do this I'm a coward but if I do it then it'll reinforce it. I think there should have been a better way to go about it and I was pretty vocal at the time of the 'mergers' but was on my own with the opinion. It was that RSC should have set limits as to what they cared about and what was posted. If people are going to try and maneuver the system there could be some balances. Conservatives are shaking reading this, but that really wouldn't have solved it. People would have posted on their own forums and really tried to dive into the hysteria. It's almost 2016 election/2020 election in the US where we're fact checking if EoS ran to single... Of course they did, we 3x'd their KDA and we're still beating DF... let's merge the topic. because EoS has a point of view where they did it until they were bored. But then an uncapped fight happens and we chase 3 EoS around for 30 mins and we leave, so they take an ending.... I know it's a mess, I'm not saying there's a perfect solution but I think all in all, it bred activity, there should have been a better way to go about it with more tournys (maybe shorter span or qualifiers) that would have worked better so people were required to do those fights. We had around 10-15 RoT members I think at one point, some didn't make it thru FA. Lots of other Solace liked their banter in TS, myself included. Yea I'd say 'back then' is all perspective, midsized in say 2010 would be 20-30, but by 2012 there was really just 'clans' and 'smaller clans'. Midsized clans are important but the reason Solace had success I'd say was the CWA fights on similar #'s with DF/RSD/VR etc. Then when we got maybe 20-30 more members, doing the CWRI's with ~10-15 down and slapping in kills made statements. The problem is keeping that 10-15 members when activity and quality are issues as well as keeping things rewarding for those who are still there. I think that's always been the issue of mid/small clans--if you don't have a good way of promoting activity then it'll be less important to be active. Right now there's definitely enough people but the commitment is significantly less attractive, at least that's my impression. I think there is one but it was made by King Chronic, it was mainly Tika and Avenged talking about inferno and I'd post an RS3 pic to get Avenge riled up. Good leader, wish he was around more. Solace Adelais DF MK MoD Least fav no order but probably... EoS, VR, TR, SE, KO Yeah I don't have an 'unregret kick', just regret suspending Duv and the way Solace ended. We did style checks and our melee binders were people like yruki, johnnyisbest, j221, ankit, derek, list goes on. Most people in Solace if required could do melee binds using fkeys or if not, at least at a very high level. Having that in our back pocket was awesome so if we were ever low in a style we could even it out and not be super lacking. The spam was mentioned but I made it a requirement, made everyone spread 5 mins before leaving, full gear checked everyone, titles, all of that. Lots of people just do it for the 'big fights' but we did it every single fight, every single round, and mainly because we all hated losing. I think Derek had a great speech saying something about how much he hated it and that was our motivation for a lot of the poop bird fights. We used the minimap a lot, used 3-2-1-clicking when it was pretty new... think about all the Solace people in teams that were leading fights, we were all involved in other stuff and very tight on our stuff. I think that's really what it was, good players expecting a good performance from each other, leaders included. Leadership, myself, being anal definitely helped but once we all had the guidelines, I can't take anything away from the members. It's every one of them, they made it so easy to lead. This is not meant as a flame but this is the first question about modern stuff so this is my impression... PvP worlds, 2008/2009 Kind of weird, I liked the pure CWA fights because it was easier to follow but I never really got into PvP pures etc. For me I don't see it as fun but I'm not a fan of restrictive game styles. Evizu - From what I recall, used to be pretty 'dismissive' of Solace, almost like I wasn't 'worthy' of talking to the VR leader. Pretty much tried to talk to anyone else whenever I could. Mike Cera - Probably one of the only VR officials I liked, down to Earth guy, I got to hear him call although I don't remember the specific moment, he was definitely good. We killed him on sight if he was leading. Sparze - Yea idk much about Sparze just a memorable name that we'd pile. Yea True was trying pretty hard to recruit me, he was basically giving me an acc to join DF. So if I would have come back right away it would have been in that manner. EYYYYY! One of the greats! This is jbomb right? We talked a little bit post-covid but I'm pretty sure he was upset still over stuff in the past, or maybe just disinterested in talking cause he had other stuff going on. I think it was a discord msg of me, msging him and asking him what he thought about DF, and he said something to the effect of "I don't even use spares for DF" or something like that, I really don't remember, I thought it was a RoT flex. I think I either sent the portion of a message or told someone part of it and he basically told me to never try and speak to him again. I tried to contact him on steam just to say sorry. So I did play some Leagues III coz I'm all about the XP boosts, but didn't really get into the PvM part. I really prefer RS3 PvM because there's more going on and I like the character movement. Yea.. I personally never had an issue with CR at all. I used to like browsing tip.it forums to see FT/CR posts and that jazz so as far as the beef I think it was really more related to other individuals. I loved parts of EoC, just wish there was a way to not always do EoC though because freedom is broken. Favorite ERA would be PvP worlds. We got the wilderness back, got some new places to fight (that sucked, but it made P2P fun so more clan mate interaction) and there were still a decent amount of people playing. By the time the wildy came back it kinda sucked. 07 would have been my favorite era but I was in MoD so....... oh 10000000%. I lacked emotional maturity and I'm sure a lot of others did too and most of it is just gained with time. Some traits I'd look for are confidence, decisiveness and delegation. Also, I'd want to know their vision. We were using garys mainly because I noticed our pile had maybe 35 people in the TS channel, while snipe would have 20 or w/e. Our pile looked weak and I used garys, so it made sense to get everyone except Crimzen (who used shortkeys to spam cc locs 24/7) to use them. We would spread and I would constantly ask random people to step out to make sure it was on. Purely morale though, most of the time our leaders were doing simple yet effective things. Every CWA fight -> PM OFF, fall in leaders PM to friends, add entire CC, keep it off unless you're leading, utlize minimap. We also were the ones that when the wildy came back I set up the plain blue (black+purple for PK Leaders) capes and had us cloak swapping. Theres tons of things like this that a lot of people started doing but when we say 'put em in the box'... a lot of those RoT folks were in Solace eating tears at RDG, so they've been doing that same style of fighting for a while. I don't know the extent of the new technology or 'toaster tech' but I'll say it's always pissed me off when a really close fight isn't close because of an intentional DC.

Hey everyone, I’m Lucas, fm11, Funkymunky11, etc… Quite frankly I never thought I’d post on a forum site like this again, but during COVID David asked me to do this and I figured it would be fun. There were a few delays and a lot of patience on his end so I wanted to take a moment to say thanks! If there’s anything you’d rather ask me in private feel free to shoot me a DM. If you don’t know me, hi! I was an active clanner from 2006-2013 and my RSN was Funkymunky11. I’m probably best known for being a member of Adelais, an Exodus Warlord and Solace Leader. There are a few clans in between that I’ll mention below but the majority of my time was spent in Solace, from 2009-2013. Other random things I’m known for… Gary’s Hood, Walrus memes, leaked RL information, CWA/Team Bison, coined some pretty dumb sayings like ‘the gooch’ ‘bind tank spam’ ‘boof that homie’ ‘rangers are doing what?’ Why now? Well like most people, COVID changed my working situation. In total I took a 7-year hiatus then started playing when quarantine hit. I played some RS3 with the new skill, and even did DMM day 1 & 2 with RoT (thx Derek & Ruby!). After that, I had to get my appendix out and really wasn’t too interested in OSRS since I was a completionist cape nerd. I play RS3 occasionally but I primarily just use the PC for work and call it good. Brief Clan History (from RSC profile lol) MoD - November 2006 - June 2007 Outcast - June 2007 - September 2007 Adelais - September 2007 - November 2008 Divine Forces - November 2008 - February 2009 Exodus - February 2009 - August 2009 Solace - October 2009 - February 2013 Masters of Dragons (2006-2007) I joined MoD in late 2006 after being in-game recruited by Wolksvagon. It was my first experience in a ‘real’ clan that used IRC, forums and TeamSpeak frequently. I was a lower level, 104, 105 maybe, so when it came to F2P fights I started getting cut more and more often. I maxed my combat pretty quickly and shortly after the new year I was maxed melee. I was young so I was super active, and was P2P pking with senior members like Nintendo 456 and Josh 221. When Nin and Josh got promoted, they vouched for me as well and I was our P2P PK Leader. After we tried to get the clan more active, doing more events in both P2P and F2P, the leadership pushed back so Nin created his own clan, Outcast. Naturally I knew what was going on and left right away. Outcast (2007) Not a whole lot to say here, it had a really short life and I wasn’t there for all of it. After joining there was a lot of drama because some individuals from another clan, Deathrow, had also joined and brought with them some tangled relationships. I was in Outcast for a month and a half but I was on my usual California vacation for 2 weeks of those weeks. Adelais (2007-2008) Being in MoD and Outcast, someone we fought frequently was Adelais. I didn’t want to join one of the big clans yet and I also wanted to RC PK, like Josh 221. It was just so funny because previously something like that was a ‘strike’ or whatever but in Adelais, Josh was one of the highest levels and we started having more fun outside of the game. Of course, the wilderness died, bounty hunter, all that jazz. I was one of the only active people who wanted to lead fights and was a high level so typically was alive longer. I became Marshal shortly after the removal of free trade and had a great summer with Hasan & friends. I actually met a friend from here, Havoc Razor, who I still play RS3 with occasionally and talk about life, etc. He’s such a good guy so this clan made a huge impact. I left for my usual summer vacation and when I came back the clan was pretty weird. Hasan was getting ready to be busy with school and the rebellious attitude that Adelais was so proud of really didn’t work well for CWA. Divine Forces (2008) I was going in the total opposite direction–I wanted people who wanted to fight all the time no matter what. DF provided tons of action and my first experience really trying to tank 50+ people. It was a pretty steep learning curve and people were already saying I was a clan hopper. I was basically told that because I wasn’t integrating a ton with the EST members I was going to have voting issues, but I still managed to get accepted! Again, my boy J221 was a PK Leader in Exodus and told me I had to join, and at the time I was just ranging in DF’s piles or sniping. I figured I could just do that on a spare and I really wanted to do something again. Exodus (2009) This was such a wild time. I had joined because of Dark Invoker and Josh 221, really enjoyed them and their vision for the clan but with their activity waning, Exodus really died off quickly. I was a member and quickly got promoted to PK Leader where I really made a name for myself as a caller. People in Exodus were expecting me to be good, but I was leading Adelais in CWA before this… I talked a ton of smack on RSC and this period really tarnished the reputation. “Left a big clan to get a rank in a smaller one, the new clan pulls 50 people so now this guy thinks he’s cool”.. All that. I look back at it and loved my time there though, I was dealing with some serious health issues in early 2009 and had to attend some of the fights from a hotel lobby computer (primarily the Syndicate and Shadow Elves sagas). I left for my summer vacation and Dark Invoker had the audacity to retire… mah man… Came back and was pretty focused for my freshman year of college and also kinda looking forward health wise, I didn’t want to commit to something that was as big as Exodus (I started doing real forum/admin CP work here as well as named all the wildy locations etc). So I left and joined DF again for like 2-3 fights and then left there as well. I had been labeled a clan hopper and was pretty burnt out. Solace (2009 -> 2013) Future Applicant - October 12th 2009 Member - October 28th 2009 MOTM - January 1st 2010 Warlord - February 12th 2010 Co-Leader - March 1st 2011 Leader- June 2nd 2011 Apparently the waybackmachine had that on RSC, super cool. It’s hard to find all of the words that should be said about my Solace experience. I was the first Future Applicant (well, me and Wakka Lulu, but it was the same day/time).... before they were auto accepting everyone. But, many of the people in this clan were from Shadow Elves, a clan whom I had consistently beefed with in multiple clans… so things were a bit awkward, but I made friends quickly with Zhandaly and Blake. Really enjoyed the smaller fights but at a certain point they get old, and Solace was growing. TMO was retiring and made, in my opinion, a very questionable decision to make Haron the leader. Haron had pretty much zero experience except that of a former SE member and a country clan that didn’t do PvP (as I can remember). Haron was also highly inactive, and I saw the writing on the wall for the usual ‘make a new clan, promote a new leader, still dies’ due to little/no change. I used my Invisionfree ACP knowledge and expanded further into real web admin duties, file hosting, that catchy ADTR song on the solace-rs.com page (o yeah baby)... I just knew something had to be done. Well I was still seen as someone highly toxic, clan hopper whatever, dangerous with power (all of these are true), so I remained a PK Leader while Zhandaly and Hios were promoted to Co-Leaders of the clan. Hios is a great lad and I actually had the pleasure of reconnecting with him during COVID. We talked as recently as last week about ‘strawberry blond’... if you’re Solace you know this epic mid-fight call too…”Lucas, go ahead and take it mate, I think I just got my lady preggo guys”.. This was pretty much the last we heard of him (for a while, see below!) so it was really myself, Kayla (Athena from TT/VR), Blake, and Dan(Zhandaly). Dan was by far the biggest leadership figure for Solace in 2010 and led us through some of our best moments. We were just starting to pull 40-50 consistently, fighting clans primarily in the GMT timezone due to us not being able to pull enough people. Dan eventually did step aside and TMO was able to be active for a short while before leaving me, Hios and Ghetto in charge. We had tons of leadership issues due to Hios taking some time off and Ghetto leaning a bit more to the ‘modern’ approach whereas Hios was focused on showing that we were an honor clan. Unfortunately, EoS had activity issues so they used a common strategy–bully a smaller clan to build momentum. This was right after Hios had gone inactive again and for the first time in my clanning career, I had to step away for 2-3 weeks while I sorted out what the heck I was doing in real life. When I came back it was awkward because I had to get a new phone/PC and didn’t have some of my logins, but Ghetto told me that the past 2 weeks had been pretty rough. Ghetto had felt that his activity wasn’t up to par for leader, so here I found myself. Trying to balance life, trying to get a feel for things, but it was ‘we need to do something right now’. I really started using some of the recruitment tactics that had brought success in Exodus and Adelais, and really focused on quality and rewarding activity. We rebranded the ranks (too many times, but this was the first big one) and started changing the way we operate on our application basis and where we were headed. Ghetto, Derek and Klutzy were the advisors during this time and really did well managing snipe unit, spy networks, public image/negotiations, the whole thing. This period for me was amazing as we were finally not as outnumbered and could send 25 snipers and do what others needed 40+ for. Everyone was decked out in full corrupt and DG gear cause we all DG’d together (and it was required to be a sniper)... EoC… pretty self explanatory (Nice Ely Dan).... 🙂 Besides EoC, I also had just found out that I was becoming a young father and it seemed like a good time to go out. There were a lot of issues at the end where people would rather play other games and basically crapped on the attitude of every event. Me, being a hothead and finally slaying the beast that was ‘RSD’, decided suspensions and rash actions were best, which they weren’t, and things couldn’t really be repaired. I’ve talked with quite a few ex-members and I think everyone can agree that we’ve all grown from it, but I had some of the best times of my teenage/early 20’s on a video game with these people and it really made an impact. There are too many people to name in this and I’m trying to just send it and not re-edit later but seriously, thank you all for being homies. I was super anal, there’s really no hiding it… right cape? Right style? Garys on? Fall in faster?... but that’s part of what made us great. When we did bad….
