Yes, very much so, I was in multiple clans in the 00s and lead one too.

Yes I remember that, 2008 sounds about right. Actually, I might have been in Black Knights too.... can't remember it was a long time ago,

    1. Yep, all good. Been working from home since February so just getting fat and drinking too much. 2. I think DMM. 3. I wanted to see sailing happen, I used to play a game called Bounty Bay Online and I envisaged sailing being that but in OSRS. Would've allowed a whole new direction for the game. 4. 2005-7 as that when I was most active in clans. 5. The poll system was great for the first few years of OSRS, I think it is now not fit for purpose and should be revised. 6. We polled whether we should and the answer was that they shouldn't. 7. I thought they were great, I think the mistakes and errors became part of the story. It was done to create entertainment and it certainly did that. 8. Currently part of ROT sorry. (not really)

I wasn't surprised, although no one at Jagex thought it would last longer than 6 months.... glad I proved them wrong. Looking at how the game is performing and the general lifecycle of MMOs I'd say you have at least 10 years left.

Cheers buddy. The biggest issue with that sort of thing is that Jagex never had any evidence that they were doing this and Jagex didn't want to become the "internet police". ROT were not the only ones doing it either, it get very prevalent at one point.

The biggest difference between wow and RS is that RS doesn't bind items to accounts which means it would be easily abusable. If Jagex offered this service 99% of the requests would be fraudulent. Seems like this would open pandoras box.

This was a trade off between better pathfinding or hugging. The only way I can see to get it changed is to have two seperate pathfinding systems which would be a big overhead to manage in the engine.

PvP clans will flourish if more people do PvP. So the real question is how does Jagex revitalise PvP. This is how I would do it: 1. understand the current state of PvP (when in a player lifecycle do players start it, how do they do it, what type of PvP do they do, what do they do when they stop PvPing etc etc.. 2. Build profiles of PvPers, both long term and short term and run research to understand what would have kept those players PvPing. 3. Build a user journey that takes any player seemlessly from a non-pvper to a top end pvper 4. Test, iterate, etc.

I would have sorted out PvP in OSRS. My biggest achievement was changing the culture of Jagex into a player first mindset.

Hey Brian, how you doing? I've been really well. Back in the 00s there was a lot of reticence to do something for clans. But towards the end of the 00s people realised the importance of them. It took about 5 years to get the idea of a clan system onto the roadmap. But persistence seemed to work. All the conversations we had did help as each conversation gave me more evidence to get clans prioritised.

I think there is a lot of pressure to be super efficient when playing. However, I stream a fair bit a lots of people tell me that they enjoy watching someone who is just enjoying themselves.

The day OSRS got more members than RS3, although I couldn't celebrate it as Jagex didn't want to make it seem like it was a competition. When free to play came out on OSRS and it was a success as the worry was that a load of members would go F2P. When we became the headliners for Runefest as that was the moment Jagex acknowledge OSRS was the major game. I wanted to create a minecraft-like private server system for OSRS where players could rent their own server and create their own quests and bosses etc. But there was never much support at Jagex. Favourite - that it relies on gameplay instead of graphics to be fun. Least - the constant dumbing down of the game to make it easier. Been good, have been working from home since February which makes life much easier.

Gladz and Jaguars were probably the best known ones. What I always loved about the community is that most clans tried to give their members the best experience possible. The set up group events, had leg up programmes for new members and everyone was focused on doing the best for everyone. The selflessness was great.

I don't know, my cynical side says that it is to grow revenue. My non cynical side says it is to grow revenue.

It's not my type of game, looks too cartoony for me. It is also very confusing to understand when you look at it. I logged in a few months ago and had no idea what was going on. However, we must not forget that RS3 is where we all started and there are millions of people of still love it.

Yes, I used to run a clan with my wife called Sleeping Dragons, I have also been in Gladz, Jaguars and a few lesser known ones.

The main reason I left was because after working 15 years in one place I was getting bored and disillusioned. When that starts happening both parties start not getting on and the best thing for everyone is to part ways. I work for a deep tech start up helping them to productise some cloud scaling technology. One of the use cases (and the reason I was bought in) is in gaming, we're currently working with partners on some of the highest profile games in the world. I think every company in the gaming industry is unique. The industry is relatively new and with the boom over the last 10 years or so it is still finding its feet.

I am not sure. Most likely because it was the first Cup and we didn't realise the demand for that.

    1. I think they are very positive, however I don't think they have the impact they once did. Most people don't go past the wiki these days 2. I know a fair few ROT people and as individuals they are okay, but I think there are/were a few bad apples *cough* Jed. 3. Yes I think he was, he liked the feeling of power he thought he had. 4. Much less stress... don't have to deal with ROT. 5. They were never the biggest part of Jagex's considerations, but without them there would not have been the clan system that RS3 has now.

I think too much was invested in EOC to not do it, and I think most of Jagex realise that was a mistake, still at least we got OSRS from it. No, releasing OSRS wasn't pre planned.
