I used to fight you specially when I was at Swords of Glory and The Call of Legends and I did enjoy reminding all from reading this!

What are your thoughts on TCL?

Have you ever attended a Runefest?

What are your current goals on OSRS?

Afraid I don't really remember TCL. I was talking about this with someone earlier. When it came to other clans and our so-called rivalries I was never really involved, I just wanted to fight and ensure we maintained a healthy community outside of the fighting. While it was important to do well and achieve much from each and every encounter, the specific clans were never that relevant or important, I just always wanted us to do our best.

Yes I have attended a Runefest, courtesy of my husband, don't think it's something I would have done had I not attended with the Jagex team. Think it was around 2013.

None, if I ever get time to play I'd probably drop in and check out the clan world in more detail, as well as attending the odd fight that True likes to invite me to.

What country clans did you respect the most?

Not really sure, one of the lithuanian clans, think it was LF, but not sure was a pretty nice clan, with some good members and of course RDC were always a good bunch from my recollection.

@Clugred how’d you come up with your rsn

So when I was at school there were several Claires and most of them had nicknames, I didn't, but my friends were always saying I should. Then first week of a new year and I was in an english lesson when a teacher made us introduce ourselves. I was nervous and said my first and last name very quickly and she heard it as Cluggins, so from then on that teacher always called me that and my friends caught on and adopted the nickname Clug for me. When I started playing on RS Clug was taken and as red is my favourite colour I just added it to the end. Simple. And yes @true I still remember what you said about it.

    Questions for all:

    Favorite runescape fight and why?

    Favorite runescape achievement?

Least favorite runescape fight and why?

When you guys started clanning was there anyone you guys looked up to? Who and why?

Was there any particular person either in TR or from an opposing clan you disliked? Who and why?

I don't have one specific fight as my favourite, I always enjoyed the fights.

Favourite achievement.. Obviously the way The Rising hit the ground running and became such an awesome clan so quickly.

Although with osrs I was pretty proud of how quickly I managed to train and gain gp and how well I could support others through their training with the release of nmz.

Least favourite fight.. Again I always enjoyed the fights, but there is one in Clan Wars that really stands out as being an incredibly frustrating fight, however I can't remember who it was against so no help there really.

Never really disliked anyone within TR, I did dislike inactive leaders in other clans.

@Des Troyer @Clugred @HsCrusader07 Where there any well-known clanners that were supposed to be involved with TR's inception that fell through/stayed in their clan?

Not that I'm aware of. There were some who helped out with ideas and advice, but were never intending to join, for example Franzk, and there were those curious about joining us and either they did or didn't,  but none of those who were part of the actual inception backed out as far as I recall.

What are some things you think its crucial for clan leaders to know in the modern day ? Knowledge you dont think should be lost essentially

How do you want to be remembered as individuals ? How do you want your version of TR to be remembered ?

Having absolutely nothing to do with RS or the clan world now, I couldn't say what's important knowledge to retain. In the years I was involved clans evolved so much.

As an individual I have no real desire to be remembered for anything. I guess I hope I would be remembered as a positive influence, but I only ever went into the clan scene with the intention to enjoy myself and fight with likeminded individuals.

I never set out to be well known and the whole purpose of starting 'The Rising' was so we could have a good clan for both community and PKing, that we could feel comfortable in. I enjoyed the hard work and challenge that went into getting the clan started and mainly I'd like our TR to be remembered as a good clan, with positive ideals.

Sooz created a lot of ranks that were probably unnecessary. Couldn’t really tell you why.

This was a part of my disagreement with Dan, as Council she wanted some extra ranks that I felt were unnecessary.

What would you do differently at the start of TR if you could go back?

At the start there is nothing I could think of that I would have done differently, we started out strong and with great drive and determination from all our members. Dan's motivational posts and speeches were legendary in getting everyone hyped and excited.

Hope you're all doing well! Always found it challenging to like TR as an official of EH, because TR came across as the classic GMT clan (refusing to set up fights unless they heavily favoured your memberbase in terms of day + time), but respected your quality and the style of operation you had running in terms of strong community and refusing to crash, offering to AC, etc.

What was the impact of Sooz joining and how did she develop her own culture in the clan?

What was the perception internally when, undoubtedly, you knew she had a certain image with the rest of the clan world (particularly from the EH crowd)?

What were your thoughts on Toxic911 as a caller? I don't remember very much from fighting TR apart from it was always 11am my time on a Sunday, and that I was usually squaring off regularly against him! Hahaha.

I  believe we felt a similar way, many clans would refuse to set up fights with us outside of their own timezones and when trying to offer compromises it rarely worked in our favour, with refusal from other clans to consider it. That said I wasn't really involved in setting up fights, I was more about taking care of the community and our members.

Where did you come up with the name The Rising?

Can't exactly remember, I think the name may have come first. I remember discussing it with Dan and between us deciding it would be a great name for a clan.

    Thoughts on HsCusader's departure?

Sad times, Mike was a bit of a middleman between myself and Dan at various points, keeping the parts of the clan working well together and giving us the right balance when myself and Dan would disagree.

    For everyone:

    - Is there anything that you learned from your previous clan experiences that helped you make TR successful?

    - What specific moment in TR's days stand out the most to you? Good or bad.

TR was created right as I was retiring, so I never got to experience any fights against them or anything, but every time I'd pop in to check on DF I'd hear about TR. Sounds like a clan that hit the ground running, made a strong impact, and had members that loved it there, so congrats on the success of it.

My previous clans definitely helped me understand what I did and didn't want from our clan.

The important thing for me: Having spent time in alliance clans, where activity was very hit and miss and the leadership weren't exactly active or interested in the general workings of the clan (Don't get me wrong there were more than enough active officials to get things done and take care of things) I felt to get the activity and motivation going leadership and ranks needed to be visible and approachable and be an active part of the community. I learnt that having active officials wasn't enough if the leadership weren't interested as the officials were always chasing up members who felt it was ok to be inactive, because leadership weren't.

Thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed our early days and the success and camaraderie of TR. We had some amazing members who went out of their way to work hard for all we achieved.

I remember Des and Clug from my time in Gladz - wanted to start by saying I'm glad to see you both around and hope you've been well.

Wanted to say hi to Monkey as well.  We didn't have the best relationship in EH/after EH, but I hold no grudges from a long time ago.

For Clug: I was always really impressed by TMRD while in Gladz, and then later when TMRD had wars/capped PKRIs with EH.  I felt like TMRD had greater activity and desire to be involved in PKRIs than the other alliance clans.  Did you find that there were a disproportionate number of TMRD joining TR relative to the other alliance clans?

For Des: Why do you think TR was such an appealing option for many ex-DS members?

For HS: You mentioned disappointment from the lack of PK dedication in "The."  What was your opinion of Germs22?

For all: When Sooz was in EH, I was not her biggest fan.  I felt like she was a manipulative person who was more interested in her own advancement/popularity than the success of the clan.  She was an intelligent individual, but I felt like she used that intelligence to the detriment of EH when she did not get what she wanted.  Do you have an instance that you can recall that she tried to leverage her popularity/others in the clan against the leadership's decisions?

For all:  I feel like TR was a clan born slightly too late.  There were a lot of people in the Alliance that were desiring a more PK-oriented experience around 2006 and dispersed to other clans.  If formed slightly earlier, it is possible that TR would have captured a lot of those folks that went elsewhere.  Additionally, around 2006, EH, VR, and DF were all pulling around ~60 people (still fairly low).  They really built off each other through competition and rivalry.  TR could have also grown off that competition.  Do you think TR might have looked different if formed a year earlier?

For all: What do you think TR's greatest strength was in PKRIs?

For all: Pre-EoC, how was TR's relationship with CL? A clan that was generally of similar size and perhaps of a similar situation (often limited to a certain style of fight due to timezone).

For all: Pre-EoC, how would you characterize your rivalry with The Red Devil Clan?  @Dubbel Drank and I were talking about the TR-RDC rivalry recently.

You all should be proud of the mark TR made in Runescape.  TR started at a time when making a new clan was tough and stood the test to time relative to many others created in the same period.  Respect to you all and to TR - Thanks for doing this AMA!

TMRD was a great clan, with people willing to go out at all times of day, I enjoyed my time there, but activity had started to tail off and I became disillusioned with it. We did have many members come over to us, but they also had some very dedicated individuals who weren't happy about TR and I feel we gave them a new boost to pick up their activity again. We never set out to take any members from TA clans, it just worked out that way as both Des and I had history with them and had friends across all the clans and those obviously had friends in the clans too.

I know this was for HS, but Germs22 was a very strong figure within 'the' and as a caller he was one of my favourites of all time.

I was also not the biggest fan of Sooz and like you I felt she was manipulative and scheming, I didn't really know her too well, but others in TR were enamoured with her.

I'm sure TR may have looked different had it formed at a different time and certainly would have been stronger had we formed earlier, not necessarily because of the situation of the TA clans, but because of the situation of the game in general and I would have liked to have had more time before Jagex made their ridiculous decision regarding the wilderness.

TR's greatest strength was the dedication and motivation of all it's members, this showed in the PKRI's with the willingness to return and our callers were amazing at keeping everyone focussed.

I didn't really get all that involved with rivalries, but the best thing about most of them was that it kept us motivated and keen to prove we were a force to be reckoned with.

Thank you, I loved TR and it had many good times, I look back with fond memories of the community and spirit especially in the early days, but am sad for the way things turned out for me personally.

And your welcome, doing this AMA is proving to be an interesting trip down memory lane for me.

How did you guys feel about Sooz as leader? What were her strengths and weaknesses?

Have you talked to her in recent years?

I can't say much about Sooz as a leader as I didn't experience it. I do know she was not my favourite promotion and myself and Dan disagreed on that. She seemed like a nice enough person, but always seemed to think her way was the only right way.

As you can probably guess I haven't spoken to her since I left TR.

What were your thoughts on DF when you were there?

Were you tempted to return to TR when the reopened?

The leaders were a bit odd 😉

Thoroughly enjoyed DF, found it very refreshing just being one of the crowd, except for during name changes..

It was well organised and a really good community.

Having worked hard training up and helping many other members train quickly as well, I was totally committed to DF and despite TR being a clan that was an important part of my time on RS it would never have been the same and I would never have left DF if not for my inability to be active.

    Questions for everyone:

During your time in TR when did you feel the peak was and when was the low and why?

Do you still keep in touch with any TR currently?

Not sure how to answer, early on I loved every fight, we gained so much momentum and had many amazing run ins, but losing the wilderness changed everything for me and I couldn't really enjoy the fights in bounty hunter or the clan war arena as it was never the same atmosphere. I did try to stay motivated, but I guess during that time was definitely the low for me.

I've stayed away from RS and the community for years now and had lost touch with the majority of people. Although since being hunted down for this I have reconnected with a few and hope to keep in touch a little more.

  10. Hi, I’m Clugred (also known as Claire) and I was one of the founders of ‘The Rising’ with Dan

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….

I started playing RS. Not sure when, pretty sure it was around 2002/2003, I was on maternity leave and bored out of my mind, started playing and was instantly hooked. Also introduced my husband to the game and we played together a fair bit at the start, where we both got lured into the clan world.

    So clanning:

Mat and I started out in a small anti-rpk clan with some friends I’d met in game and when the leadership stepped down, we led together for a while. That clan was Sleeping Dragons and during our time there, Mat got a job at Jagex and pretty much stopped playing. I wanted something more so a good friend of mine, suggested ‘Sabres’ and we went there together. Franzk came across my radar while I was in SD (he liked to come and flame on the forums) and tempted me into PK’ing, where I would tag along to a few day trips with him and other members of DS, I did this for a long time and had a lot of friends in DS, but never felt the aggressive nature was quite right for me, so never actually joined (had much fun scouting for them on their official pks). I liked the feel of The Alliance clans and considered Gladz, but the green cape wasn’t my thing. In the end I followed a friend to ‘THE’, where I enjoyed some excellent wars and learnt a lot about how to do things (and not do things). I wanted more PKing than ‘THE’ had to offer and tempted by Tuesday I trundled across to TMRD which also had many good things going for it.

The important bit and probably my best and worst years on RS:

‘The Alliance’ seemed to get quieter and quieter, with the leadership moving away from PKing and becoming less and less active. Dan and I would chat about our clans and the way they were going and talked about what we really wanted from a clan. This was where the idea of The Rising was born. Dan thought the 2 of us could start a new clan, with a strong community spirit, but also with active wilderness activity. We played around with the idea, spoke with others who were like minded and slowly the idea took hold, so we took the plunge.

We went from an idea to a fighting force quicker than any of us expected Many of our founding members were a part of TA clans. Understandably the alliance clans weren’t particularly pleased with us, we’d taken many of their members, but that hostility spurred much of our success. It was amazing and I really enjoyed leading the clan, but it reached a point where there was a lot of drama, as well as the loss of the wilderness and I struggled to keep motivated. BH and Clan Wars just weren’t the same and I ended up quitting the clan as well as RS.

Having quit for several years, I came back with the release of Old School RS and played casually for a while, before joining Divine Forces. Unfortunately, life invaded and I reached the point where I became unreliable for events so decided it was time to quit for good.

In real life I work in retail, mostly enjoy it and it keeps me out of trouble, although I am also studying business management. We have plans to start and run our own business, but this has been put on hold for now. Sadly I no longer have time for gaming and although I did check out my account (last login something like 1760 days ago) I don’t think I’d ever get back in to RS as I really just don’t have the time for it.
