I am reading the book "The Two Towers" despite how popular the lotr books are, i find that a lot of people haven't read the three great tales, which are somewhat recent (stories from the silmarillion / tolkien notes / finished by tolkien's son). - the children of hurin - beren and luthien - the fall of gondolin highly recommend if you haven't read them before. fantastic books
