I think this was done probably because of the same boat they stuck themselves in with range weapons like Blowpipe. This game isn't very deep in terms of high end gear and shit, after t70, t75 and t80 what else can they really add other than Nex gear. Karils is extremely expensive for what it does and the bonuses aren't really that good, Armadyl comes with the weakness of nerfed melee bonuses which other range gear doesn't have, so black dhide being nerfed to bring it more into line for what it does as 40 DEF gear makes sense. And as a result, so did everything below it need to be.

 

The gear balance designer from RS2 was probably the smartest person in the room. Every single piece of gear he made he thought ahead on "is this useful for too much". If you want to melee, Karils is the best mage def gear to wear, bcp was a defensive alternate to torso, SGS was useful for the spec but outside of it was like any other godsword and Guthans was more consistent, ZGS fit a PvP niche, as a result. In OSRS they bring out shit they know is very strong and deal with the consequences later. Why the fuck did claws ever come back?

 

People need to understand RS2's vision never want as far to the point it'd need to be rebalanced later, and short of an increased level cap, it's hard to bring new p2p gear in without rebalancing else there won't be a reason to buy it. 6 dhide's isn't much to make a top, but 60 dhides to make 10 bodies, that was a fuckload of hides 16 years ago, you need to remember this when you argue why some of the current requirements for shit is dumb.

 

With that said, they have bigger problems right now lol.. Namely single is on it's last legs and multi will be next and we'll end up like RS3 in a few years.
