I played when I was a kid and was watching some gameplay and guides when it was on sale on Steam and it looked like there's only a couple of worthwhile classes and certain meta's that you need to follow. The hardest thing to grasp is the initial build order, once you've practiced enough and have a basic idea on that you can kind of just expand your game knowledge for each of the civ matchups. I'm pretty bad at it and played my first game again today after years of not playing and even though we got demolished I still kinda kept up with everyone, so its never too late to get into it. It can get kind of sweaty the better people are at it but it's not like we'll flip out if you're struggling.
