why not a few dedicated servers that reset every year to keep the game fresh.  base it off the original osrs start with nmz the old way so ppl can afk train it.  then do the jcup (since they want to bring this back) before the restart.  might actually excite ppl to learn pvp and join clans.

I don't play but are there literally any positives to resetting the game?

Kinda-sorta-maybe.

It's a stretch.

Despite the hardships OSRS faced in its earlier days, after the dust settled the game was genuinely amazing when it came to togetherness and community. People knew the score. EoC had come through and forced us to migrate to OSRS as a last ditch effort to have something close to what the game was before the change. The community itself was small after the first 6 months, as was the Jmod team working on the game.

And for these reasons everyone was a lot more chill. Even clans took a step back when it came to the drama and the hate chat compared to the levels of toxicity we were starting to reach pre-eoc.

Then in 2015 the grand exchange and f2p came out. OSRS popularity and member base went on the rise. We eventually ended up on the same path we were towards the end of pre-eoc and honestly at this point, we're well beyond it. The OSRS community is disgustingly toxic at this point, botting/cheating tech has exceeded anything that was developed during RS2, the Jagex team behind OSRS is not only once again out of touch with the community but they also tend to do as they please now.

None of this is a truly logical reason for a reset but if a reset did happen, I'd assume that once the dust settles a lot of these issues would go away due to the smaller community and the smaller team of Jmods that'd be manning the project.  This is all wishful thinking though. There's no guarantee that things would turn out this way.

Understand where you're coming from. This logic is the same across all games. It's why people always rush to play the newest thing because that incubation period where things are fresh, new, and people are on the same playing field is too much fun. A recent example of this is Amazon's New World. Seems really stupid, IMO, to throw away a players current progress for the sake of nostalgia.
