In all seriousness, it's more interesting to figure out when different peoples came to be, not when they were fortunate enough to found a country around themselves. Looking at that level also makes things more interesting, at least in Europe, where even today big countries consist of regions where languages and cultures slowly shift as you move in any direction (as opposed to sharply changing when crossing a border). You even have the smaller countries in between using multiple languages (like Belgium using German, Dutch & French, and Switzerland using German, French & Italian) or a mixture of them (Andorra using Catalan, which exists between French and Spanish).
