It really depends on what you mean by using the word 'smart'. What is 'smart'?

I hear MK say it's the ability to recite facts, Howl and Fluke somewhat agreed with this notion. To be able to provide 'factual' or 'correct' information. But is that really all there is to being smart? In school we are graded on this principal. You are smart when you are able to memorize you multiplication tables, memorize countries / state capital cities,.. If you go by this definition then your smart phone and the internet by extension are smart.

But I don't think smartphones are smart. Here is why, I think that 'being smart' is more complex than simply reciting facts however being able to recite facts to some degree is necessary. There are multiple dimensions that determine if something or someone is smart. Some of these dimensions are: how willing is someone to learn, to be curious (asking questions), to think about things instead of blindly reciting them and to try and really understand them. Another dimension is what you do with that knowledge and how you use it to make sense of the world. Another one is how you use your own intuition, when to give in to your intuition and when to back off. These dimensions (there are more) show some form of your intelligence. I think that someone or something can be considered smart if they perform 'well' in multiple dimensions or disciplines of intelligence and if they are able to use their intelligence in a constructive and relatively fast manner.

Your smartphone only really recites facts and even that it does poorly. A smartphone has the same capabilities as your laptop, desktop, Playstation 5, Switch, Xbox X,.. are those not smart? I think they were falsely labeled 'smart' by smart businessmen.
