Should students be able to grade teachers?

dunno about wording as grading, but teachers definitely need some sort of feedback loop to improve. wouldn't necessarily want their pay to be cut for being shite as that would just cause incel-like behavior between the teacher and student, but something to help the teachers identify their weak points and give them a reason to improve

The school system is significantly skewed. You have many boomers in control of the legacy systems surrounding education, and many of them are complacent. Changes are rare, improvements are almost nonexistent. Many professors know their job security is intact as long as their sponsors don't lose interest in their research affiliated with the said college/university.

In order to have communities that thrive in society, we need the best of the best to teach us the said material.

Think the college versions are fair,  any younger would probably be inaccurate.

Most Universities have systems in place that give students the opportunity to evaluate the performance of instructors. These evaluations do work up to a point, but for any instructor that is tenured and fully vested in the institution they teach at, they almost hold no weight unless there are very clear ethical boundaries that have been breached that would require an intervention by the University to take punitive action against a faculty member.

ratemyprofessor is also a portal where you can view evaluations of instructors as well, but I’d caution the validity of some of the reviews on the site unless you see a listed instructor that has overwhelmingly bad reviews. You’ll see a lot of Negative Reputation bombing from people who simply failed their courses due to personal negligence rather than the performance of the instructor themselves, but that just comes with the territory. Universities don’t generally use this portal as an indication for the performance of their staff, but it is a good reflection tool for instructors to see how they are perceived between semesters. Some of them can be particularly funny as well.
