Even if he rots in jail he'll be martyred, while the Republicans won't have to worry about whether or not to nominate him or risk him running against their nomination. I don't think there's going to be any serious uprising at the least though. Meanwhile the Democrats lose out on their main boogieman that they've had solid control over for the past few years. Trump has no real chance of getting elected again outside of the country entering any sort of harsh economic times where people will just mindlessly blame whoever's currently in office and vote them out. The Dems love pointing at his crazy antics and using that to support themselves while also being able to set the bar really low.
