Don't download any random plugins on a whim thinking 'hey that might be interesting'. The standard plugins in RuneLite at least to my knowledge will always be safe as they are extensively reviewed. The ones in the PluginHub always have a github link attached to them. Always check the code or ask someone that knows how to before downloading (Brian, Howl, me for example). I'm not sure how plugins get published to the PluginHub but seeing all the random shit that it holds it seems like it's far easier to get plugins published there then it is to get your plugin accepted as a default plugin. I don't know anything about any other clients but seeing that OpenRS has some more 'interesting' plugins open to the public (CoX solver for example) I think it'd be good practice to always check the code for this client specifically.
