Yeah, Marvel was basically bankrupt in the 90s and they sold the movie rights to a bunch of their characters to save the company.

Right now, Marvel is miles ahead of DC in terms of movies/tv shows. DC needs to get their shit together and actually start making a proper DC universe and not just relying on Justice League characters. The funny thing about the Marvel vs DC rivalry is that in terms of movies, Marvel was making these amazing movies with their B squad characters (like 95% of MCU fans had never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy until the movies and yet they were a hit (granted it helps that Chris Pratt is a very likeable lead). All of the flagship characters from the Marvel comics had their movie rights owned by other companies and have been butchered because of it (X-Men, Fantastic 4, Spider-Man, etc). Once Marvel finds a way to incorporate Fantastic 4 & X-Men into the MCU (since they now own Fox which owns them), DC will stand no chance. At least if DC continues like it's doing.
