While watching Divine Forces real life meet up video, I noticed a part where a DF member solicitated a prostitute (legally).

Seeing this made me consider the following question - should prostitution (and the solicitation of prostitutes) be legal?  There are currently a number of countries where doing this is already legal.  To name a few: New Zealand & Australia, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and Germany, Brazil & Columia, as well as Greece.

There are a few places where the lines are more blurry, for instance, prostitution is not a crime, but solicitation is. Countries like Canada, France, Bangladesh, Indonesia are all examples of countries with blurry federal lines on the subject.

It can be a tricky subject with many pointing to safety of the sex workers to be of paramount concern.  If sex work is legalized, studies have shown that sex workers typically work in a more safe environment, and this can help to generate jobs and more income (through taxation) for governments. However, there is the age old question of, "would you want your sister / daughter / mother" to be a sex worker?  Does making sex work legal therefore normalize it?  Is this something we want normalized in a functional society?

If you were Dictator for a Day, would you make prostitution & solicitation legal, or illegal, in the country that you live?

This is actually something I had thought about a few years ago when I was watching Firefly and how "Companion" was an actual occupation in the show, and the character who had that occupation was very elegant and professional with her business.  It got me to wondering why shouldn't it be legal? It's their body to do as they please, and they are providing a service.

yea, purely based off of the safety factor. people should be able to do whatever they want w/ their bodies, it's already something that occurs so might aswell legalize it and make it safer for those that choose to do so

Make the oldest trade in human history legal, and by extension safer?
What's next?

Legalize THC? Single payer healthcare? Transparency for your tax dollars? Accountability over convenient hate speech?
When does it end with you socialists, you want & want & want ...

Yeah mainly as you mentioned and several others have due to the safety factor. I think @Applerune also had a good point that law enforcement have far better things to be doing than policing that on top of the fact that I can't imagine most of them actually want to do so. I haven't done very much research on the subject but I definitely think safety should take priority over all else. As for other questions you mentioned, I don't necessary feel the stigma will fully go away even if it's legalized. But I don't think it will be worse than if it were to remain illegal, that's for sure. I do think there should be a restriction in place that prevents people from doing it professionally below a certain age, probably 20/21. I don't think 18/19 year olds, despite legally being "adults" should be sending themselves down that career path when it could have lasting effects on their lives, even if yes other jobs can also have lasting effects on your life, and no I don't quite agree with the way people in that industry are treated especially if it were to come to looking for employment in other professional settings. I still consider 18/19 year olds children in almost every aspect, and I also think it's dangerous to allow people that are too young into that line of work regardless of legality, mainly because of all the weirdos and nonces out there. Don't need to be making children more available to them even if they're technically of age. I could be wrong and of course this is only my opinion and if it were to be legalized at the age of 18+, it doesn't really effect me in any way shape or form so if they still choose to do so, that's their right I suppose. I still think safety would be a concern, especially for younger women.

Edit: Also worth noting that I think there's other fields that people below a certain age should be very careful of participating in, or perhaps not even legally be allowed to do so, and that isn't exclusive to prostitution. There are a lot of not so great jobs out there that can have long term negative effects that I think can be particularly harmful for younger individuals who may not be ready for it.

Also lol @ the cause of this subject coming up being a DF meetup video, idk why that's funny but it just kind of is

And agreed with Fluke if I were given absolute power in my country for a day I don't think this would realistically be a subject i'd actually touch on

they shud be decriminalized

Haha even when I smoked pot I agree should be illegal just decriminalized.

As for prostitution I always felt off about sex work I've never even gone to a strip club lol.

Can see both sides of the argument but when you look at say red light district. That's run the right way and it's not the same as a street worker in a north American city. If it's done right and safe should be your choice in a free country just isn't for me lol.

Not sure if you heard. I was leader of The BlacKnights.
