depends what Microsoft decides to do with Discord

if they start changing ToS in serious ways, adding excessive ads, tracking, etc then I would imagine a lot of gamers will move to something else, including us

I've been bouncing around reading different articles and opinions of what people in the tech business believe might happen if Microsoft does buy Discord. Most signs are pointing to them just making the acquisition and letting Discord continue to develop independently without any big involvements from Microsoft.

With the huge investments and failures of Skype and Mixer, Microsoft wouldn't spend this much money just to botch another app. Sure there will most likely be a few changes, but overall nothing will hinder how Discord runs right now. The way it's setup and convenient for so many different groups of people is just too good to change and screw up.

Then there is also this - https://gizmodo.com/discord-wants-to-go-public-or-sell-to-company-like-micr-1846533094

If it goes public then that'll benefit
us, the users better than having Microsoft acquire it overall. But then that risks investors buying it up and ruining it that way.

I've been using Discord since it released back in 2015. So I've seen it grow from a basic irc-like app into what it is today. I don't want it to be ruined by a large corporation.

I don't think much will change.

Microsoft will most likely remain hands off and let them do there thing. In the future though I can see them making changes to the platform in order to obtain some increased ad revenue from it though

Uncrackable

Never Broken

Always Egg Nar

It was only a matter of time until someone comes along and ruins Discord. The platform is already very buggy, not as stable as it should be, and prone to security concerns. With Microsoft or another company behind it, I see these things getting worse as Microsoft will want to integrate it into Windows, which I'm sure'll cause something bad. Then eventually the ads will come. At that point I'll be awaiting the TeamSpeak 5 app that is pretty much a Discord clone.

I'd hope they'd learn from previous fuckups and not ruin discord but I guess it also won't surprise me if they do manage to turn it into a shit show.

Hope to god it doesn't end up anything like skype
