  1. As a marine biologist, I believe space is more important for humanity as a whole to explore.  We live on a world with finite resources that is being degraded.  The destruction we're causing per time spent is rapidly accelerating and with the advancements of technology, we have the ways in which we can completely destroy the world increasing (e.g., nuclear weapons, climate change).  For the foreseeable future, it is much easier and less resource intensive to fix our own planet rather than try to terraform another.  However, a long-term goal for humanity should be to have a population living somewhere other than Earth to safeguard against uncontrollable events (e.g., mad dictators with nuclear weapons, world ending meteors, or the creation of the terminators).  From a population biology perspective it would make us much more resilient.

The bottoms of the oceans would be interesting to explore, but I don't think it would revolutionize humanity like space travel would.

*Edit* on the hunt for alien life, I'm of the opinion that it probably isn't a great idea to actively seek it.

  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caninus_(band)

    "
Caninus was an American deathgrind band formed as a side project by Most Precious Blood guitarist Justin Brannan, Rachel Rosen, drummer Colin Thundercurry and two female pitbull terriers, Budgie and Basil.[1] They were signed to War Torn Records and had three releases, including a split with Hatebeak and a 7" split with death metal band Cattle Decapitation. In 2008, Richard Christy played the drums on an unknown number of songs for Caninus.[2]

On January 5, 2011, Basil, one of Caninus's pitbulls, died. Basil had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and was euthanized.[3] The band has ended because of the dog's death. Vocalist Budgie also died in early 2016."

@3lite is itching to bring back EH, just look at his avatar.

Broski, Islamia, and I made a pact back in 2010 that EH would reopen in 2040 with the release of Runescape 5, virtual reality-pokemon go edition.  Want to chop a yew? Have to go find a yew to chop irl.  For clan fights, you have to virtually fist fight your opponents, which means that turtles like @Xero may struggle against muscle men like @Oli and @Mar.

  4. And another:

    "
The sudden appearance of the English army caught the Norwegians by surprise.[14] The English advance was then delayed by the need to pass through the choke-point presented by the bridge itself. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle has it that a giant Norse axeman (possibly armed with a Dane Axe) blocked the narrow crossing and single-handedly held up the entire English army. The story is that this axeman cut down up to 40 Englishmen and was defeated only when an English soldier floated under the bridge in a half-barrel and thrust his spear through the planks in the bridge, mortally wounding the axeman.[15]"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Churchill

    "
In July 1943, as commanding officer, he led 2 Commando from their landing site at Catania in Sicily with his trademark Scottish broadsword slung around his waist, a longbow and arrows around his neck and his bagpipes under his arm,[18] which he also did in the landings at Salerno.

Leading 2 Commando, Churchill was ordered to capture a German observation post outside the town of Molina [it; nl], controlling a pass leading down to the Salerno beachhead.[19] With the help of a corporal, he infiltrated the town and captured the post, taking 42 prisoners including a mortar squad. Churchill led the men and prisoners back down the pass, with the wounded being carried on carts pushed by German prisoners. He commented that it was "an image from the Napoleonic Wars."[19] He received the Distinguished Service Order for leading this action at Salerno.[20]

Churchill later walked back to the town to retrieve his sword, which he had lost in hand-to-hand combat with the German regiment. On his way there, he encountered a disoriented American patrol mistakenly walking towards enemy lines. When the NCO in command of the patrol refused to turn around, Churchill told them that he was going his own way and that he wouldn't come back for a "bloody third time".[4]"

  6. Thank you all for being willing to participate in this topic.

In the 2005-2006 period, I was a Rider of Rohan in Gladz.  At the time, I really valued the relationship that the alliance had.  I can relate to what Germs had mentioned about the ability to attend each clan's trips because I really enjoyed joining BK for their PK trips (my brother was in BK) and occasionally joined "The" on PK trips.  I can remember the Gladz opinion on a few alliance-related issues, but wanted to see if you all had any insights on the following:

1.) The Devilz was a Gladz ally, but had a poor relationship with several of the other alliance clans.  It was often a source of contention between the clans.  Things got confusing when I would join TD on their pk trips, and they'd end up hitting an alliance clan.  I logged out in this situation and would not participate, but I do remember a few Gladz that got reprimanded for fighting alongside The Devilz against alliance clans.  Do you remember if there were any leadership discussions in "The" about how to handle The Devilz~Gladz alliance situation?

2.) Initially, there was resistance to incorporating TMRD into the alliance and it was in negotiations for several months before they were formally admitted to the alliance (I think BK didn't like the idea, but forget the opinion from "The").  Do you remember the stance that "The" had on TMRD at the time?

3,) In hindsight, I believe that the alliance could have collectively hurt Gladz, BK, TMRD, and "The."  These four clans had a unique perspective and ambition in the clan world, valuing large scale, infrequent wars over frequent PKRIs.  Because these four clans were so similar in their approach, there was an opportunity for rivalry and competition to promote a different style of PvP play than the direction the clan world went.  Do you think if the alliance didn't exist, it would have caused the four aforementioned clans to be more competitive with each other, promote more competition and interest in warring throughout the clan world, and (perhaps) thrive as long-term forces in PvP?

Lastly, respect to Germs22.  I remember him as an extremely positive force in the alliance and I do think he helped to promote a friendly atmosphere between Gladz and "The."

  7. Used to conduct fish/shark mortality studies with commercial fishing gear out of Australia (Adelaide and Exmouth).

Caught a lot of weird things with sometimes the catch being dead by the time it made it to the boat.  I didn't want anything to go to waste, so I'd at least try to eat everything I killed.

I found the following to be completely inedible based on taste:

    - Smooth hammerhead (strong metallic taste; high urea content in the meat)
    - Grey reef shark (high urea content such that the meat tastes like pee no matter how it is prepared)
    - Mullet (a dark red oily meat; some people actually like it but the taste was so powerful I couldn't handle it)

Some things that surprisingly didn't taste bad:

    - copper shark (if prepared right, a very mild flavor with a very firm meat)
    - Shovelnose ray (people actually cut their meat into cylinders and call it "imitation scallop")
    - Queenfish (nice mild flavor)

Was pretty poor when I was conducting the work, and copper shark in a curry was a staple way of trying to get some protein.

  8. Immortality such that my body stays intact at an age somewhere between 18 and 30.
Ability to switch bodily needs and sensations on and off (I don't want to be immortal after the sun goes out drifting endlessly through space freezing/burning and hungry/thirsty).
Ability to spawn any item in front of me (in my endless space drift I'm going to need entertainment, this is also essentially endless money and money is only good for so long).

  9. In one of your earlier comments, you mentioned that Corr did a bit of weekday pking in a later time zone, often fighting CL.  In my experience with EH, CL didn't think very highly of EH until we fought them in a planned PKRI in their timezone, after which they treated us with a lot more respect.  I think CL was stuck in a weird spot, because they were generally the strongest AU clan, but really struggled to get challenging fights with the top GMT/EST clans.  I could see Corr stepping up in that time zone garnering a lot of respect from the CL memberbase.

How was the relationship between CL and Corr?
