What are your thoughts on Evizu?

I thought Evizu was a good guy, right up until he fell into the VR bullshit and dropped his standards.  I've had plenty of conversations when our clans got along and always thought he had a good head on his shoulders up until those things happened.

what was the hardest part about leading df?

Trying to have more of a life outside of DF lol.  Nothing else was "hard" so to speak.  There were tough decisions and tough times but that's no different than life so I wouldn't call it hard, just normal.

If someone started a new clan today, what would be your advice to them?

If you started a new clan from scratch, what would the logo/colors/cape/mascot be?

1. Don't.  But if you do, just be the best example you can be and put everything into it if you're going to do it.  No half ass.

2. Blue being my favorite color I'd go with that.  Idk about all the current capes so I'd have to look that up to answer that.  I'm not good with names/mascots (which explain why my RS name was Legolas86880) so I'd probably get some advice on a name/mascot tbh.  That's something I'm terrible at.

Do you have a favorite memory of playing RS with your son?

Skilling and doing fun clan events in our first clan.  Honestly just like anything else it's not about what you're doing but who you're with, so all the time spent together means everything to me.

Have you ever even slightly considered playing RS again?

As an individual to maybe skill, there's a tiny bit of interest there, but right now I play too many hours of League and Rust to ever pick up another game.

Hey Rick,

I always heard your foot steps in shadows but it's great to see you again. I'm really glad you returned.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say thanks for being the adult in the room full of kids. You were a great role model for many of us as you commanded with a clenched fist while showing cherished values to over 100 people. Many won't say this but people jumped on their computer to escape real life situations and environments and it was such a blast to be a part of the culture we developed. We were lucky. It was a never give up mentality through our 'two wrongs are only the beginning' mentality, lol.

When I first started leading, I noticed you had the ability to galvanize all 150 of us while letting others lead in fights. In the heat of the moment, when the adrenaline is pumping, it's easy to get that rush going. When there was downtime, it was not the same. To maintain that intensity and determination outside of fights it required a different approach. I remember you used to write these topics pre fight that would make us feel as if this was our moment, our time, to do what we do best - win. Your topics carried such character that I began to study them. I too wanted to wield the sword without swinging it. Through studying your posts it taught me how to write with character, charisma, intensity, and power. It was proof for me that leadership was recognized in more than one fashion, and the one who cultivated all the attributes, was the leader of leaders. Fuck an english class.

For many, those years were the building blocks of lives. To go through that maturity, with the guidance of an elder's wisdom, that will last a lifetime.

Since this is an AMA, I have to put my two cents in; Did you think you'd ever seen everyone again, 11 years later, thriving in our discord? I have to admit myself, Scotticon, Saxo, and Dale did a hell of a job bringing the band back together. These may be friendships that will last a lifetime.

1. As clans or?

2. I don't think I'd have done or changed anything.  I have no real regrets overall, yes I wish we didn't get into some of the longer fights, but it wasn't like it was just us or just my call.  I feel like those who know me well enough, I left with some sort of decent reputation and some small mark on the clan world while I was there.  I wouldn't have thrown that way to go do something different.

3. I'm honored that he looked up to me and proud that he's still doing things that started there.  I'm also proud of Murray and the guys who keep DF what it is today.  I can't say I expected it because expectations like that are bad.  I won't say impressed because that would indicate I didn't think he was capable.  I'm proud and happy to have been even the slightest of influences on him.

4. I think during that era we policed ourselves pretty well, and came up with a set of standards for what fights were all about.  I think that probably started with DI and then later on we all kind of set standards for gear, rules, what was this or that and I think that worked well up until VR.

5. I don't think I ever modelled myself after anyone.  I've always just tried to be true to me.  Even if I tried to do something outside of that, it would have felt weird or forced or even wrong.  I think most people are very similar in game and out of game.  People will say "it's just a game" but I would bet money that the people who do NH shit in game, also don't care much for rules outside of the game.  People who are respectful in game, are usually the same outside.  It's not terribly different from sports to the point that competition is not character building, it's character exposing.  There are more caveats to that but I'm  not ready to write a book yet.

6. Since I've opened up a bit personally here I'll answer this truthfully.  I'm 2.5 years out from my marriage and still kind of finding my footing again.  There are days I'm still not myself and not okay and sitting around most of the time hasn't helped that.  I hope to just continue to get better and get over things that happened and forgive people who will never apologize for what they did.  The hardest apology to accept is the one you never get.  As I feel better and get back to normal as a person I feel the rest will happen as it should.  I also have a close family member dealing with stage 4 cancer and that's an immediate thing that I deal with daily.  So right now, no far off future plans, just get better every day and take each day as it comes.  Thank you for this question.

yea as clans since i imagine you haven't really cared to keep up, i guess like how you remember them or how you felt about them when you played / dealt with them

Sorry to hear about things having been rough, I know divorce can be really unpleasant (family members) despite not being married myself, and i've also had multiple family members deal with and pass on from cancer, albeit not immediate family members. Cancer sucks. Here's to 2021 hopefully being less shit and us all getting through whatever we're dealing with

Lego my man. Crazy good times, extremely enjoyable and fun. I think everyone in DF respected you and your leadership. I was always in awe about that, especially the amazing synergy between you & Ves. I don't recall any specifics, but I do remember your presence being quite uplifting in times that we needed it. I definitely learned a lot from your tenure - life lessons included.

Hope you're doing well during these times. Stay safe and strong!! x

This is a really good and interesting read.

I have to say that my favourite fights were always against DF. There was so much motivation on both sides to beat each other and although this is a little sad to admit, I remember shaking after some of these fights (even the ones that lasted hours and hours) as there was that much tension and so much riding on these fights. After all, we prepped all week, got ourselves pumped, had an hour mass and expected to be returning for 10 hours+, it was more than just a fight in many ways. I couldn't imagine doing all that now.

Whenever we lost to DF, TS/vent was either dead or people were very critical after and we were demoralised but in contrast when we won, people were shouting out of pure relief and celebrating that we won. I'm sure you guys probably had the same atmosphere after.

I also liked fighting DF the most because generally you guys did keep to the rules unlike VR and EoS did (however their fights were enjoyable for different reason).

I appreciate all of this Alex.  As I continue to compare this to coaching, I have heard similar things from ex-players I've coached over the years and I'm honored to have had some kind of lasting effect on people.  That's why you do those things, to help make better people if you can.  I've never really cared about writing things since high school honestly, so those posts were just me putting feelings into posts and I'm glad they had that lasting effect on you and hopefully others.  In the end everyone will remember me for something different, but I'm happy that those who were around and really knew me, know what kind of person I am and that's what matters.  I know there are questions some people who still haven't grown up would love to litter this topic with and that's fine too, because they didn't really know me.  I'm sure you already read what I said about you but just know your journey sticks with me as well.

I wasn't sure if I'd ever talk to so many again.  I have always had a few people on FB and it's been nice watching some of them grow up and have kids and be successful in life, but I can't say I expected to get back in touch.  You guys did an amazing job tracking down and stalking to get the family back together and I appreciate all of you for it.

Yeah I really haven't kept up.  I respected all clans more than they know, from the small clans that were up and coming to the big clans who stepped on everyone.  I've talked about the only clan I didn't/don't have respect for and why, but everyone else I enjoyed fighting, having rivalries with and everything in between.

I appreciate that Adam, it has been rough and I'm sorry to hear about your dealings with cancer also, it really does suck.  Thank you for the well wishes and same goes to you and yours.

What rank are you in league?

I was better at RS lol.  I'm a career Silver 1/2 player mostly.  I'm pretty certain I can hit gold if I put more time into it but I just haven't had the time.

It was a wild ride, an amazing time with amazing people.  I will always appreciate you stepping up and taking the reigns when DF needed you to.  You as well bro.

Do you think the decline of the clan world over the years is more on Jagex's part, more on the community's part, or about an even mix?

I think it has more to do with the fact that there are just a lot of games to play now and with Esports being so big, most of those games are more popular than RS.  Besides the part where Jagex removed the wildy during our time and then had to fix it, most games change and you learn to adapt so I can't blame Jagex.  I'm sure the people around doing the clan thing now are also probably just as dedicated so I can't blame that.  I mean, even WoW saw a pretty big decline in play after certain expansions.  People find new games or new things to do.

Corr were always my favorite fights as well because of the intensity.  There were also so many power swaps between us and then so much time we were pretty close to even.  Corr and DF had more things in common than we ever had differences.  The atmosphere you talk about was pretty similar, although as active as our TS was we never got too down after a loss, but certainly losses to Corr hurt the most.  I agree about the rules thing also, both Corr and DF leaders/officials always tried their best to keep members to the rules and neither of us wanted a cheap win.  Respect.

What role do you play on League mainly? I haven't played since the new item changes.
