Tempest: Year One

One year ago today, on August 13th 2020, we at Tempest officially opened our doors. Opening a clan in 2020 seem like a crazy idea, but we quickly got together a fine group of like-minded, veteran clanners that were ready to return to the scene and build something together.

Since day one, this clan has shattered all of our original expectations. From our original 55 Tempest, we've grown to over 100 active members, hosting some of the biggest fights/clusters OSRS has seen in half a decade. We've established a presence in both F2P & P2P Wilderness, proving to be competitive on both fronts, bringing both variety and new challenges to our members. As we've succeeded, we've always prioritized our own enjoyment, never straying from doing things our way as one of the most active wilderness clans.

Like any great clan, all of this would have been impossible without all of the incredible members that have been part of Tempest. Our community is our backbone, and there has never been a single dull moment within ours. I've truly loved being part of Tempest and I'm looking forward to many more incredible moments. 🥂

I don't think anyone in the main community was expecting us to be what we are today. Let alone being open for a year. We have been one of the top clans if not the top clan in some situations during our time being open. We revived the F2P scene, dominated the F2P scene at first and made people change the meta so that way they could beat us. We have started to make ourselves a P2P name as well and I don't think anyone expected for us to be as good as we are. Being in tempest has been the most fun I have had while clanning in my 10+ years of doing so. I would like to thank each and everyone of you that has made Tempest what it is today. This is only the beginning though we still have a lot to achieve and will hopefully bring home a JCUP for us if they ever announce it. We have the officials and community to be around for aslong as the clanning scene will last. Let's keep up the pace and continue on our journey. Let's go boys and girls. One year of Tempy.

What a great year. When True reached out in July, I have to admit, I thought he was crazy. 😛 Still do... But he's done a great job at putting the boomer bullpen together.

Met so many good friends while here. So many great memories; banter in discord, late nights on teamspeak, the AMA's and recaps. Far and above the best experience I have had in the world of Gielinor.

Thanks to those who have been here in Tempest. And cheers to those on the outside. Friend or foe - it's what makes the game interesting. Fingers crossed we can remain as a good retirement home and keep providing the great community we have since day one.

It’s crazy how fast 1 year went by. Went from true telling me on TeamSpeak/discord that he’s returning to the clan scene and he’s going to join rev to 10 minutes later having a officials lineup for the new clan. Spoke on TeamSpeak until 3 am talking about who we’ll recruit and if we’re able to revive the f2p scene. Our goal was to get just 50 members and we achieved that goal within a night. Searching for a clan name was also difficult and had to have members vote for our name. True wanted redemption I wanted Atlantis Vene was excited so he mixed stuff with vanguard n some other name. It’s insane how far we came for only 1 year of opening and how much friends we brought back and also made new friends. Being able to work with people in the officials lineup I thought I’d never in a million years was something special to me. I learned a lot of things on what it takes to run a clan behind the scene and also run a clan during crunch time. It’s only the beginning and we’re already doing this much damage. Opening this clan with you guys is something I won’t ever forget and I would like to thank every Tempest member that ever gave us a chance. Even if you’re not in the clan now good or bad you will always be apart of our history.Keep sailing sailors and continue on for year 2! Tempest on me chest

Being in Tempest has been some of the most fun I've ever had on this game. Enough cannot be said about the strength of this community (and the craziness that comes with it). From a couple of boomers just looking to have fun, to a dominant force in the clan world, Tempest has certainly come a long way. Thank you to all of the members and officials who make this clan special.

Here's to the next year and whatever it might bring.

When Tim reached out to me in November, I told him there was absolutely 0 chance of me coming back to RuneScape. Fast forward 9 months, this has honestly been by far one of my favorite experiences I’ve had clanning in my entire career. The fact that we were able to accomplish everything we’ve done with this combination of people from different clans and various eras of the game is truly amazing. I’m so excited to see what’s in store for year 2 of Tempest. Happy birthday Tempy!

Incorrectly anticipating the world to open up last fall, I was about ready to move on from the game, until True approached me last July asking me about how I liked Deathrow and that he was considering joining. After I told him I was on the verge of quitting he pitched a potential new clan idea and a week after, the groundwork was laid for Tempest. Things moved very quickly, and before we knew it the forums exploded and we had a solid ~50 man memberlist. A lot of people wrote us off when we first opened. They called us a novelty project, and that the hype would soon die. We shattered most expectations and and brought a lot of people back to the game and spearheaded a revival to the F2P scene. It’s been a very memorable year and I’d like to thank every member with us for any part of the journey as well as all the clans and teams that have provided us with action. Happy Birthday Tempest!

It's incredible how quickly Tempest grew into the powerhouse we are today. I guess that's a testament to the absolute mountain of experience, talent and skill our staff team and memberbase has. They don't call us boomers for nothing. I'd like to take this opportunity to tell a little story from the first week of Tempest (pre opening) that I kept quiet about at the time, for the most part, but I think enough time has passed now to where it's not really a big deal.

On August 6th of last year I was chilling on teamspeak just shooting the shit with people and eventually the conversation finds it's way around to the clan and the forums which had just opened 5 days previously. To my horror it was revealed that one of the admins working on the skin was none other than Nolan (Longsnapper) who I obviously knew from Ronin and Vanguard.

Now, in his defence, Nolan is a great guy. He's always ready to help out those around him. Sadly, I knew how much of a klutz he could be regarding forum security. During my stint in Ronin I had unrestricted ACP/FTP access within my first week of joining and while I obviously had no ill intent, he didn't know that. I was also aware of how he'd regularly reuse passwords.

So I say to the fellas on Teamspeak I bet I could stroll right into the Tempest admin panel right now knowing him. Low and behold, with one attempt, I was in with no restrictions. Incredible. Don't reuse passwords. (I also found out he had used that password when he made Deathrow's forums as well, luckily they had 2FA activated)

Happy birthday Tempest, shoutout to everybody who makes this clan the best in the game. Special shoutout to Captain Dickus. Vibe out. Crystals. RIP #designed-by-nolan.

Definitely wished I joined day 1 but prior life engagements had me not so sure if I'd like playing the game. True dm'ed me about the whole idea and I was skeptical. I logged back into the game and my last login was exactly 365 days ago. Ever since I got back into the game and joined Tempest and haven't looked back. What a wild and fun ride it has been. A clan full of boomers that most people shoved under the rug. Look at us now.

Been one great year. Here's to many more Tempy :peperave:

No one - not even the founders expected Tempest to develop into the incredible community we see today. Tempest started as just a seed, that seed being the simple idea to create a clan filled with likeminded individuals. It amazes me how far this simple idea has taken us, and continues to take us. The Tempest community has been a beacon of light not only to me, but certainly to all those who remain here. Hell, we've even been a beacon of light in the darkness that is the PvP scene.

I can never forget how we started. I will never forget the challenges we faced as we sailed forward through our first year. I'll always respect those who have chosen to sail with us, and those who carry on the simple yet perfect idea of Tempest.

What a year it's been! I never thought I would be playing runescape again, let alone be in a clan. But to be honest, I'm so happy I did. From the beginning, no one ever thought that we would make it. The amount of work that everyone has done here, from the officials to the members, has been amazing. There are so many people in this clan that I would of never met if it wasn't for Tempest, so I am very grateful for that. Congrats to everyone and let's keep rolling to year 2! Happy Birthday Tempy! ❤️
